Ink and Mustard rudely asked his age,
When Custard cried for a nice safe cage.
Suddenly, suddenly they heard a nasty sound,
And Mustard growled, and they all looked around.
Meowch! cried Ink, and ooh! cried Belinda,
For there was a pirate, climbing in the winda.
Pistol in his left hand, pistol in his right,
And he held in his teeth a cutlass bright,
His beard was black, one leg was wood;

সেই সত্যিকারের, আসল ভীতু ড্রাগনের দিকে তাকিয়ে।
বেলিন্ডা এত হাসল যে পুরো বাড়িটা কেঁপে উঠল,
আর ব্লিঙ্ক বলল "উইক!" যা ইঁদুরের হাসির শব্দ,
ইঙ্ক আর মাস্টার্ড দুষ্টুমি করে জিজ্ঞেস করল তার বয়স,
তখনই কাস্টার্ড কাঁদতে লাগল, নিরাপদ খাঁচার আশায়।
হঠাৎ, হঠাৎ তারা এক ভয়ংকর শব্দ শুনল,
আর মাস্টার্ড গর্জন করল, সবাই চারপাশে তাকাল।
"মিয়াওচ!" চিৎকার করল ইঙ্ক, আর "ওহ!" বলল বেলিন্ডা,
কারণ জানালায় উঠছিল এক জলদস্যু, ঠিক তাদের সামনেই।
বাঁ হাতে পিস্তল, ডান হাতেও এক,
আর দাঁতে কামড়ে ধরা উজ্জ্বল কটলাস এক,

Ink trickled down to the bottom of the household,
And little mouse Blink strategically mouseholed.
But up jumped Custard, snorting like an engine,
Clashed his tail like irons in a dungeon,
With a clatter and a clank and a jangling squirm,
He went at the pirate like a robin at a worm.
The pirate gaped at Belinda’s dragon,
And gulped some grog from his pocket flagon,
He fired two bullets, but they didn’t hit,
And Custard gobbled him, every bit.
Belinda embraced him, Mustard licked him,
No one mourned for his pirate victim.
Ink and Blink in glee did gyrate
Around the dragon that ate the pirate.
But presently up spoke little dog Mustard,
I’d have been twice as brave if I hadn’t been flustered.
And up spoke Ink and up spoke Blink,
We’d have been three times as brave, we think,
That everybody is braver than me.
Belinda still lives in her little white house,
With her little black kitten and her little grey mouse,
And her realio, trulio little pet dragon.
Belinda is as brave as a barrel full of bears,
And Ink and Blink chase lions down the stairs,
But Custard keeps crying for a nice safe cage.

বেলিন্ডা ফ্যাকাশে হয়ে গেল, আর চিৎকার করে বলল, বাঁচাও! বাঁচাও!
কিন্তু মাস্টার্ড ভয়ে কুঁকড়ে গিয়ে দৌড়ে পালাল,
ইঙ্ক গড়িয়ে পড়ল বাড়ির তলানিতে,
আর ছোট্ট ইঁদুর ব্লিঙ্ক কৌশলে তার গর্তে লুকিয়ে গেল।
কিন্তু তখনই লাফিয়ে উঠল কাস্টার্ড, ইঞ্জিনের মতো ফুঁসতে ফুঁসতে,
তার লেজ ঝনঝন করে বাজল যেন কারাগারের লোহার শিক,
ঝনঝন, ঠকঠক, ঝাঁকুনি দিয়ে সে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ল জলদস্যুর উপর,
যেন এক চঞ্চল চড়ুই কেঁচোর পেছনে ছুটে যায়।
জলদস্যু বিস্ময়ে তাকিয়ে রইল বেলিন্ডার ড্রাগনের দিকে,
আর তার পকেটের ফ্ল্যাগন থেকে একটু রাম খেয়ে ফেলল,
সে দুটো গুলি চালাল, কিন্তু লক্ষ্যভ্রষ্ট হল,
আর কাস্টার্ড তাকে গিলে খেল, একদম পুরোপুরি!
বেলিন্ডা তাকে জড়িয়ে ধরল, মাস্টার্ড তাকে চেটে দিল,
কেউই দুঃখ করল না সেই জলদস্যুর জন্য।
ইঙ্ক আর ব্লিঙ্ক আনন্দে নাচতে লাগল,
সেই ড্রাগনকে ঘিরে, যে জলদস্যুকে খেয়ে ফেলল!
কিন্তু কিছুক্ষণ পর ছোট্ট কুকুর মাস্টার্ড বলে উঠল,
আমি আরও বেশি সাহসী হতাম, যদি এতটা ঘাবড়ে না যেতাম।
আর ইঙ্ক ও ব্লিঙ্কও বলে উঠল,
আমরা আরও তিনগুণ সাহসী হতাম, তাই না ভাবো?
কাস্টার্ড বলল, তোমাদের সাথে আমিও একমত,
কারণ সবাই-ই আমার চেয়ে বেশি সাহসী!
বেলিন্ডা এখনও তার ছোট্ট সাদা বাড়িতে বাস করে,
তার ছোট্ট কালো বিড়াল আর ছোট্ট ধূসর ইঁদুরের সাথে,
তার ছোট্ট হলুদ কুকুর আর ছোট্ট লাল ওয়াগনের সাথে,
আর তার সত্যিকারের, বাস্তবিক ছোট্ট পোষা ড্রাগনের সাথে।
বেলিন্ডা সাহসী, যেন এক পিপে ভরা ভালুক,
আর ইঙ্ক ও ব্লিঙ্ক সিংহকে ধাওয়া করে সিঁড়ি বেয়ে নামিয়ে দেয়,
মাস্টার্ড রেগে গেলে যেন এক রুদ্র বাঘ,
কিন্তু কাস্টার্ড এখনো কাঁদে, এক নিরাপদ খাঁচার জন্য!
